Herman’s Pie Crust


  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. cold water


  • Sift flour, measure, and sift with salt.
  • Cut in shortening until mixture is coarse and granular.
  • Work water in lightly with a spatula until little balls of dough just hang together in one large ball. Divide into four pieces and roll out to 1/8 inch thick.


This was copied exactly as written. If using a pie plate larger than 8”, you will probably only be able to get 3 pie crusts from this recipe. You also might want to chill the balls of dough before trying to roll out.
